About this Project

Structural Protection and Weatherproofing Upgrade

For this project, the focus was improving insulation, sealing vulnerable areas, and reinforcing exterior protection around multiple windows. Proper window sealing and framing inspection are critical in preventing moisture intrusion, air leaks, and long-term structural damage.

Rather than simply applying new caulk, this job involved detailed inspection, insulation upgrades, and precision sealing to ensure lasting performance.

Egress Window Restoration and Insulation Upgrade

The egress window required a full exterior evaluation and resealing process to improve both protection and energy efficiency.

We completed the following:

  • Removed all exterior hardware to properly access the window system

  • Inspected framing and exterior components for signs of moisture or deterioration

  • Applied insulating foam in all gaps and openings to eliminate air infiltration

  • Installed a 3.0 R-value insulated barrier to improve thermal performance

  • Reinstalled Azek and wood trim for a clean, finished exterior appearance

  • Sealed all joints with color-matched urethane caulking for long-term flexibility and durability

Egress windows are especially important because they serve as emergency exits while also being highly exposed to the elements. Proper insulation and sealing ensure they remain both functional and weather-resistant.

First Floor Double Window Caulking Replacement

Over time, exterior caulking can crack, shrink, or separate, allowing water and air to enter the home.

For the first-floor double window, we:

  • Removed deteriorated caulking

  • Replaced all caulk to restore a secure weather seal

This helps improve energy efficiency and protects interior framing from moisture intrusion.

Lower-Level Left-Hand Window Inspection and Sealing

Basement and lower-level windows are particularly vulnerable due to ground-level moisture exposure.

For the lower-level LH window, we:

  • Inspected the framing for integrity

  • Replaced all existing caulking to ensure a watertight seal

Maintaining proper seals in lower-level windows is essential in preventing water seepage and foundation-related moisture issues.

Additional Exterior Protection

To further strengthen the home’s exterior defense system, we also:

  • Caulked all first-floor steel lintels

Steel lintels above windows can allow water penetration if not properly sealed. Addressing these areas helps prevent rust, expansion damage, and long-term structural concerns.

Window Sealing and Insulation Done With Precision

This project was not just about cosmetic touch-ups. It was about reinforcing structural integrity, improving insulation performance, and ensuring every opening in the home is properly sealed against Pennsylvania weather conditions.

At Charming Exteriors, we approach window restoration and sealing projects with careful inspection, quality materials, and attention to detail so your home remains protected, efficient, and built to last.

If your windows show signs of cracking caulk, drafts, or moisture intrusion, our team is ready to help restore proper protection and performance.
