About the Project

Restoring Roof and Wall Protection in Pennsylvania

For this project, we completed a partial roof replacement and siding repair on the rear upper and lower roof sections of the home. The existing roofing system had reached the point where replacement was necessary to restore proper protection and ensure long-term performance.

Along with the roofing work, portions of the siding required careful removal and repair to properly integrate new flashing and waterproofing components. Our goal was to provide a complete, properly tied-in system using premium GAF and CertainTeed materials.

Evaluating Roof and Wall Conditions

Before installation, we carefully inspected the rear roof sections and surrounding wall areas to determine the scope of work and identify any conditions that could affect performance.

During the evaluation, we focused on:

  • Existing shingle condition and roof wear
  • Flashing and waterproofing transitions
  • Siding areas requiring removal for proper tie-ins
  • Roof and wall sheathing condition beneath the system

Because hidden damage can only be confirmed after the roof is opened, all decking and wall sheathing were scheduled for inspection during installation.

Proper inspection is essential to ensure the new system performs as intended and qualifies for manufacturer warranty protection.

Roof Preparation and System Installation

The existing shingles on the rear upper and lower roof sections were carefully removed to prepare for installation of a complete new roofing system using GAF products.

The roofing installation included:

  • Tear-off of existing roofing materials on rear roof sections
  • New synthetic underlayment installation
  • New ice and water shield at required eaves and penetrations
  • New perimeter drip edge
  • New starter shingles
  • New architectural shingles
  • New ridge cap shingles
  • Installation of a new plumbing pipe boot

Throughout the project, debris was managed using our onsite bagger system to maintain a clean and organized work area while protecting the property during construction.

As part of the installation process, roof decking was inspected after tear-off. Any deteriorated plywood would be replaced as needed with homeowner approval to ensure a solid foundation for the new roofing system.

Siding Removal and Waterproofing Protection

To ensure proper flashing integration and long-term weather protection, required siding sections were carefully removed and reinstalled using CertainTeed materials where applicable.

This phase of the project included:

  • Inspection of wall sheathing
  • Installation of new house wrap and wall underlayment
  • New step and wall flashing as required
  • New J-channel around the window and extending to the second window
  • Caulking of the corner post
  • Installation of additional flashing to reinforce waterproofing integrity

Proper flashing and siding integration are critical for preventing water intrusion and protecting vulnerable roof-to-wall transitions.

Final Inspection and Quality Assurance

After installation, we completed a final inspection to verify proper roofing installation, flashing placement, siding integration, and overall waterproofing performance.

The completed system provides:

  • Improved weather resistance
  • Reliable roof-to-wall waterproofing
  • Enhanced durability and protection
  • Manufacturer-backed roofing materials and installation standards
